Email Monitoring

Several of FingerBot’s modules rely on email monitoring to properly work. These modules include Target, Walmart, and Sam's Club.

1. Email Monitoring Accounts

FingerBot uses IMAP to monitor your email inbox in real time. It automatically monitors, detects and forwards 2FA/OTP verification codes to the bot — no manual copy-paste needed.

How It Works

The monitor connects to your inbox over a persistent IMAP connection. If a retailer sends a one-time passcode (OTP) or verification code during login, FingerBot will automatically retrieve the code, use the code and then delete it when done. The email monitoring service starts automatically when FingerBot launches.

Linking an Email Monitor

  1. First create an Email Monitoring Account for that inbox (see Section 1)
  2. When saving the Account Profile, select that monitor from the Linked Monitor dropdown

When the bot logs in and triggers a 2FA prompt, it will automatically wait for the code from the linked inbox.

Supported Retailers

Email monitoring provides 2FA and order confirmation support for:

  • Target
  • Walmart
  • Sam’s Club

Macy's, Amazon, and Costco do not use the email monitor for 2FA at this time.

Supported Email Providers

Basically all major emails are supported (so long as they support IMAP).

Setup Steps

  1. Go to Settings → Profiles → Email Monitoring Accounts
  2. Click ➕ Add
  3. Fill in the fields:
    • Friendly Name — a label to identify this monitor (e.g. "Personal Gmail")
    • Email Address — your full email address; the IMAP server auto-fills
    • App Password — a dedicated app password (see note below)
    • IMAP Server / Port — auto-filled; only change if your provider requires it
  4. Click Save Monitor

Tip: use the Import button to bulk-add monitors from a TXT/CSV/JSON file — see Bulk Import.

App Password Required — Most providers block regular passwords for IMAP. You must generate an app-specific password:   > - Gmail: myaccount.google.com → Security → App Passwords (requires 2FA enabled on your Google account)

  > - iCloud: appleid.apple.com → Sign-In & Security → App-Specific Passwords

  > - Yahoo / AOL: Account Security → Generate App Password

Limitations

  • The monitor only scans emails received after it connects — it will not catch a code/order confirmations that are received before the FingerBot application is launched.
  • There is a fixed timeout window for 2FA codes. If the retailer's email is delayed, the bot may time out before the code arrives.
  • Custom/corporate email domains without a recognized pattern default to the iCloud IMAP server — you must manually correct the IMAP Server field.
